Ante

1) Money placed in the pot before the hand is begun.
2) The player to the left of the dealer, usually in an ante and straddle game.

Usage:

An ante is not part of a player's next bet, as opposed to a blind, which usually is. All of the antes in a particular pot, taken as a whole; usually preceded by the.
